Why is this important to me?
I'm very excited to let you know that I will be running in the 2010 Boston Marathon® on Patriot's Day April 19 as part of the Perkins School for the Blind Marathon Team.
While I’m looking forward to meeting the physical challenges involved, I’m proud to take on the challenge to raise money and awareness for Perkins and the School’s many programs and services.
I have worked for Community Systems, Inc. for the last 14 years. I work at a group home with 4 wonderful deaf/blind young adults. The gentleman I work primarily with, Michael, receives his low vision assessments at Perkins and enjoys the digital talking books he borrows from Perkins. Mike's Mom, Lorraine, has been a volunteer at Perkins for over 30 years.
I believe in the mission of Perkins. For 180 years, Perkins has transformed the lives of children and adults worldwide. They are committed to making independence a reality for thousands of people.
Perkins' education and training programs develop the skills and confidence necessary for every individual to live, work and function as independently as possible within the community. Perkins creates an innovative environment of exploration and discovery which results in the development of new teaching methods and educational materials. Lastly, Perkins is committed to sharing its expertise with its professional colleagues at the national and international level.

Running to be Fit!
My employer has a Healthy Lifestyle program for the workers. By following the program I have been able to get to the point where I can run a Marathon.
My wife, Ardi, has been my rock through some rough spots.
Last June, I received a cardiac pacemaker. Since that time, I have dedicated my life to getting in the best physical condition I can.
I joined a running group, the Gateway Running Club at the Gleason Family YMCA in Wareham. We hit the roads three times a week, with our long runs being anywhere from 12- 17 miles long.
Without their encouragement and the efforts of Donna and Heather in the Healthy Lifestyle program, I would not be where I am now.
Please follow my progress in my blog: http://blogs.wickedlocal.com/warehamruns/
Or you can read a newspaper article about Perkins and my marathon mission!
